Medications
and Prescriptions
In
order to properly use PracticeMaker® to store and even print
prescriptions, the system needs to be set up properly. Though the
medications you prescribe can be added to the Drug Database as
needed, it is best to add them to the system before hand! Once
medications are added to the database, they can be used for patients.
To learn how to add medications read about the Medication List of
PickList User.
Viewing or Printing Medications
The patient's medication list is located
on
the Records
tab. The Patients Module chapter explains how the list
functions.
To print or view prescriptions click the Print Manager button. The screen below shows all
the current
prescriptions as a list on the left. The small section on the right
shows you the current medication, in this case Aerobid MDI.
- To review
a different medication
just click on its name
(see the hand pointer over the Aerobid MDI record above.)
- To flag a prescription for printing just click
the Print check box in the review section. Up to 5 medications
will print on one prescription sheet. Only medications prescribed by
your office (green highlight) should be selected to print. Also,
you must complete all the required fields in order to mark a medication
for printing. If you do not you get the dialog below!
Printing Prescriptions
Note: Before
printing a prescription
make sure you are the
Current User as this is used to "stamp" the log!
Occasionally you will want to hand print a prescription, such as a
narcotic or if the printer is not functioning. In this case click the Update
Log:Handwritten Rx button.
At other times, you will call a
prescription into a pharmacy. When this is the case, click Update
log: Called Pharm and you get one of the dialogs below. If there is
no pharmacy linked to the patient's record, you will need to enter the
phone number. If there is a pharmacy
number you need to confirm it.
Dispensing Log
Anytime you print prescriptions, hand write them, or call them into a
pharmacy, the Dispensing Log for this prescription is updated
with
the prescription info. If you need to edit the log, click the Add
Note
button located just below the log. This will add your note to the top
of
the log with a date and time stamp! The log is limited to 64,000
characters.
